When the weather begins to turn, the clothes get swapped out and the craving for more hearty warm meals takes the place of the fresh lightness of summer eating. The garden is usually cleaned up by now or done for the season. I know mine sure is. I brought in the last bits of veggies and turned the beds over to prep for the next season. It is a welcomed break.
The focus shifts back to the home and brings about the coziness we crave during the colder months. Starting with a great menu. This list of Fall Dinner Ideas is all made from whole ingredients yet is uncomplicated and delicious.
Potato Soup
Soup is a staple for the colder months so of course I have to throw soup into the mix when talking about fall meals. This Potato Soup is simple to make and uses a lot of ingredients most of us keep on hand. It is creamy, packed with flavor, and hearty on its own or when served with bread of some sort. I do find that my Chive Biscuits and No Knead Easy Artisan Bread complement it well. Creating a cozy Fall meal in no time.
Bacon and Mushroom Risotto
With the abundance of stock and bone broth available from all the heavier meat dishes in the winter and fall months. Bacon and Mushroom Risotto is not only a warm hearty meal to serve but it is a great way to add that bone broth to your diet while being a great alternative to soup.
Yes, I mentioned before that soup was a staple and it is, but we don’t want it for every meal. This Bacon and Mushroom Risotto is perfect for a Friday night as it dresses up the table with its presence. Packed with bacon, and mushrooms and flavored with thyme. This one is a delicious one-pot meal perfect for a cold day.
Pumpkin and Bacon Pasta with Sage
I just love pumpkin. It is so versatile and many of us only have it in our desserts or breakfast foods like my Homemade Pumpkin Pancakes. This is kind of a strange thing since it is part of the squash family so having it in a savory way should come as no surprise.
However, when I first posted this Pumpkin and Bacon Pasta with Sage, I got comments and not exactly the kind you want. People were confused but I can tell you this is one to try. It is creamy and the salty bits of bacon bring a smokey depth of flavor. Kids love it too and it is really a great alternative to the typical macaroni and cheese.
Sirloin Steak with Herb Butter and Creamed Spinach
This one is a twofer. A juicy seasoned steak with homemade herb butter melted over and creamy, garlic spinach that creates that steakhouse meal at home.
Glazed Meatloaf
Finishing this list up with a newer recipe to the blog and my daughter’s very favorite meal. Glazed Meatloaf is a simple meatloaf with a delicious homemade glaze that creates incredible flavor. Serve alongside Roasted Asparagus or your favorite veggie. The leftovers make great sandwiches for an easy lunch idea.
