Recommended Reading | Book Review

Today I am sharing a few books that are excellent finds for my Recommended Reading, Book Review for December.

Enjoy The Video Version

It is the coziest time of year and really the best time to slow down. Curl up with a good book or enjoy an audio version of one while you wrap presents and go about your day. I have three great ones for you to check out in today’s post along with a bonus one for kids.

Now this is a bit different than my regular posts, I know. But the thing is I have always been a reader. I love a good book and find that I am not satisfied without having one to look forward to reading each day. Surely I am not the only one.

Enter in the idea for not only this blog post but possible monthly Recommended Reading Book Reviews for (month). I haven’t decided if this will be a new series. But I have titled it with the month just in case this catches on and becomes a monthly post for those of you who are always looking for new books to read.

I would love to continue sharing books I come across and if you think it is helpful, I would love to hear from you! As always thank you so much for stopping by the blog, it means the world to me,

Book #1

Nobody Will You This But Me- Bess Kalb

Ok I absolutely must start with this gem of a book I found. Now, I actually listened to this one on audible several times. I believe it is read by the author Bess Kalb and she does a wonderful job of capturing the characters. So I highly recommend listening to it as well.

The author tells the life of her Grandmother and their very special relationship. Be prepared because this book will make you laugh, and cry and send a very heartfelt message. I have listened to it 3 times so far and when done with my current book, I will be listening to it a 4th time. Because it is THAT GOOD!!

Book # 2

Recipes For A Scared Life- Rivvy Nashama

Another memoir-styled book but with her own lessons that she has learned throughout her life. Rivvy Nashama describes wonderful moments and people she has met along the way. This lady has lived an interesting life to be sure while she shares what she calls recipes, for living a beautiful and meaningful life.

I found the book to be a fun read and at parts, it made me stop in my tracks and ponder on the “recipes” she gives. It is a great one to gift to others as well. In case you are looking for a great gift idea.

Book # 3

The Four Agreements- Don Miguel Ruiz

In my younger years, I mostly read for the fun of it. But in my adult years, my reading interest has included personal growth and development. I love to learn and grow as a person. I have found reading to help me in ways that I never thought possible. I believe in showing up as the best version of myself daily. So I would be remiss to not share some of the great books that have helped me do just that.

If you are looking for a great personal growth book, this one is a great book to read. It will not only show you a new perspective on life but give you insight as to how to go about it in an improved sense. An eye-opening look into our minds and behaviors as human beings to be sure. And one you will not regret diving into.

Book # 4

The One and Only Ivan- Katherine Applegate

I had to mention this wonderful book. I know a lot of you readers are parents or have children in your lives and this one is a wonderful one to read with them. In fact, for preteens, it is an excellent chapter book for them to enjoy on their own as well.

This is a beautiful story written from the point of view of Ivan, a lonely gorilla that was in fact, held in captivity for well over 20 years of his life. Sadly Ivan hadn’t been outside the entire time. As sad as that aspect is, it is a story about friendship, and love and will bring you to tears in moments as Ivan speaks from his point of view. Katherine Applegate is a brilliant writer and does a remarkable job of capturing that viewpoint. Surely, it is a great one to add to your child’s reading experience.
