Duties of a Homemaker
Today is another ordinary day at home for me. I have meals to cook, dishes to wash, and as always a daughter to tend to. Every day can feel like a blur when you are home doing the same thing each day. But there is so much to be said for living intentionally within our little dwellings.
It is important to make sure there is an effort not just in accomplishing tasks around our homes. But also in bringing about lovely things to appreciate and working towards a joyful mindset. It’s what separates a fulfilled homemaker and one who feels burdened by the workload.
On The Menu
Today in particular I am baking a Mushroom Swiss Quiche for lunch which may possibly be lunch and dinner today. Or perhaps lunch for a few days. Making foods ahead of time is a great way to help keep balance as it is always helpful when you have something you can quickly heat up for a meal. I am not one to meal prep per se but it is good to have at least an idea of what could be made.
After lunch is served, I immediately clean the kitchen. Something I have found to be quite helpful come the later afternoon. There is nothing like starting dinner with a sink full of dishes. So instead of thinking I can clean them later, I clean them directly after. A habit worth forming surely as this has saved my attitude more times than I can count. The sight of a clean kitchen, as temporary as that might be, is one that instantly makes me feel accomplished in my list of to-dos.
Views From Home
But beyond that, the mindset must be fixed on the bigger picture. The dishes will always need washing and the meals will need to be made. But there is something quite lovely in between all of these things that carry us forward unto new days. It is to stand back in quiet reflection at the end of a day’s work. To see the fruit of a clean home, a fed family, and people comforted by their surroundings.
All done by the hands of a homemaker. These things are worthy of praise however little one might get. There is value here beyond what is tangible. The value one brings to her family when she labors with love in her heart is like a stored-up treasure to be savored later.
“It is not so much what we have but how much we enjoy that makes happiness.”
Charles Spurgeon
Though some days are tougher than others remember that your work within your home is important and worthwhile.
