Easy Peach Iced Tea

This Easy Peach Iced Tea is a refreshing classic tea with incredible flavor and is perfect on a hot summer day.

Growing up my mother used a large pickle jar to make our sun tea. I vividly remember the large jar sitting on the back doorstep soaking up the summer sun. She served it plain, with no sugar or any frills yet the taste was refreshing and still one of my favorite ways to enjoy a glass of iced tea. However, when the peach season rolls around, it’s another story. I like to spice things up by adding a few to our typical sun tea and boy does it create an entirely different taste experience.

Easy Peach Iced Tea may not be as easy as making good ole’ plain sun tea but it is not far off. It consists of creating a simple syrup made from fresh peaches that is then combined with plain sun tea which results in an incredibly refreshing summer drink.

Origins of Peach Iced Tea

There does not seem to be a single source we can attribute to the origins of actual sweetened peach iced tea. However, most of us know that Southerners are well-known, and even proud sweet tea-making folk. The idea of serving unsweetened tea is almost unheard of in the hot summer months in the south and this tea is in a sense a reduced sugar variation. It is nonetheless a sweet tea. One that is also packed with a peachy freshness that gives a kick of flavor to any traditional sweet tea.

Easy Peach Iced Tea Is…

  • Well, just like the name implies, it’s easy to make
  • Refreshing, perfectly sweetened tea
  • Best when served chilled
  • Can be easily adjusted to taste
  • Can be made simply be made decaffeinated (just use decaf black tea bags)

Ingredients

Tea- I like to use Lipton Black Iced Tea bags, as it is the easiest way to make the tea. However, you can easily substitute regular black tea bags and steep them on the stovetop to make this tea.

Peaches- You can use yellow or white peaches to make this Easy Peach Iced Tea. Be sure to use fresh peaches as canned ones won’t yield the same results. You want perfectly ripe vibrant peaches for this.

Sugar- I prefer using pure whole can sugar but regular granulated sugar works just fine as well.

Water- Probably pretty obvious, right? I like to use filtered water for the purest taste.

Meanwhile, you can make the tea by pouring 6 cups of filtered water into a pitcher and adding 1 to 2 family-sized Lipton ice tea bags. Place the pitcher in a sunny window or set it in a sunny location. I find my porch works perfectly. If you use regular tea bags please see the note below.

Assembly Notes

  • If you are using regular tea bags you can make the tea the same way (sun tea) but it might take a few extra minutes for the tea to steep. In this case, to make things quicker you can boil 2 cups of water on the stovetop with 3 regular-sized tea bags. Pour the boiled tea into a heat-safe pitcher and add the additional water.
  • You can easily adjust the tea strength by adding one or two Lipton family-sized iced tea bags to the sun tea.
  • To make this Easy Peach Iced Tea decaffeinated, you can get the Lipton family-sized decaffeinated tea bags or you can use standard decaffeinated black tea bags.

Tips

  • Look for peaches that are from free from bruises
  • The best peaches to use are perfectly ripe and vibrant in color (red, yellow, and pink) with no patches or green coloration. A hard or green appearance indicates the peach is not quite ripe enough and will result in a subpar result.
  • Chill the tea before serving and pour over ice adding a few peach slices is a nice touch but not necessary.
